Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day

Happy 151 birthday Canada, Happy Canada Day. I know that 151 is like a teenager compared to many nations, but still, we are excited. The past 150 years has been a wild and wooly adventure and I am sure the next 150 will be even more so.

Happy Canada Day

When you ask people about Canada you may hear … Mounties, moose, mountains and maple syrup. Perhaps it would be beavers, hockey and “nice”. You might hear Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. Someone might mention zippers, baseball, basketball and the telephone (all Canadian inventions). ┬áSomeone might think of Tim Horton’s. Those are all Canadian (or started in Canada) it is true but we are so much more.

I suppose if you tried to encapsulate it all in one image there might be a moose being ridden by a beaver, wearing a mountie cap, drinking a Tim Hortons coffee while carrying a hockey stick and talking on the phone. I couldn’t find that image anywhere .. but I did find something

Happy Canada Day

Canada has a proud history and heritage. We have a great culture and live in a great big beautiful nation. Canadians might not seem wildly patriotic and enthusiastic when stacked up next to some countries but don’t be deceived. WE LOVE CANADA.

If Canada is more than Mounties, moose, mountains and maple syrup … what its it? So much more than I can say in a few words. Come see for yourself.

Come Celebrate

From coast to coast and from coast to the world’s longest undefended border, most (all?) communities will be celebrating the day in some way.

Let’s Celebrate Canada Day

A Canada Day anniversary Celebration.

July 1, 1867, a new nation was formed. Ontario (then Canada West), Quebec (then Canada East),  and the British colonies of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick came together to become the Confederation of Canada.

Other provinces joined the initial four over the years. We now number ten provinces and three territories.

July 1st is Canada Day, the day we celebrate the official founding of our nation. Like every other country in the world the were various people groups, nations, states and tribes here before this nation was formed. That is the nature of nations, tribes and empires. They rise and fall and change. Canada is far from perfect but it is a wonderful place to live and we love her.

Here in Clearwater, BC we will be celebrating with festivities down at Dutch Lake. There will be lots to do and the forecast is for hot and sunny weather. Come on down and celebrate our birthday if you can. If you can’t make it here try and take in the festivities at your local or nearest Canadian community. It will be fun.

In celebration of Canada Day, we have attached a flag pole and Canadian Flag to the front Valley Hideaway Guesthouse. It will be a permanent feature of our B&B. We are proudly Canadian but look forward to hosting guests from around the world and learning more about them and their nations.

Canada Day

Happy 150th Canada.

On July 1, it’s Canada Day. That will be when Canada officially celebrates the 150th year of confederation. I wonder what the fathers of confederation would think of us now.

It’s a time of rejoicing and celebration. Virtually every community in the country is celebrating on that day. Kevin and Kathy Corbin from Valley Hideaway Guest House, Clearwater’s newest B&B, will likely be joining many of the residents of Clearwater, BC as we celebrate with a birthday bash at Dutch Lake.

There will be a BBQ (by donation), face painting , horse display team , canoeing , zumba, and games on the beach.  There will be lots of ice cream and fresh watermelon to keep you cool. Bring your sunscreen and your bug spray.

Compared to many nations of the world 150 years is a relative newcomer. We know that, but we’re proud of “the true north strong and free”.  She is far from perfect (as are all countries) but we love her nonetheless.

If you can join us at Dutch Lake, that’s wonderful. If you can’t, then celebrate in whatever community you find yourself.
